Roberto: Yes, sir, you wanted to speak to me. What can I do for you?
Male diner: Yeah, I’ve been telling the waitress here that I find it unacceptable that you distribute a menu with dishes which are not actually available. Why put it on the menu if you don’t serve it? I was really looking forward to eating the Thai chicken curry. It isn’t very professional, in fact it seems ridiculous.
Roberto: Well I tell you what I find ridiculous is customers who…
Naomi: Who…who haven’t been told about the other choices in the menu, yes, I’m sorry chef, it’s…it’s totally my fault. I should of course have explained that we have a delicious Sri Lankan vegetarian curry instead of the chicken one.
Male diner: Oh, a Sri Lankan vegetarian curry, eh? Well, yes, that sounds more like it.
Naomi: Yes, our chef has created a spicy, tangy Sri Lankan vegetarian curry with a mixture of chickpeas, oh a very healthy option, sir - fruit, and several exotic spices. I’m sure an experienced diner like yourself would be able to work out which ones…
Male diner: Oh, well, yes, I …I do have a good palate. Hmm, yes, okay, I’ll go for the vegetarian curry then. Thank you.
Naomi: Great, er, thank you so much chef for helping, I can finish the order now. So sir, for the starter you wanted the, er…
Roberto: (in background) If the experienced diner is finished, I have some work to do…in my unprofessional kitchen.
Naomi: So for the starter - the seafood platter, and for your main course - the Sri Lankan vegetarian curry. Would you like some wine with that?
Male diner: Yes, indeed. Now you seem to know your stuff, what do you suggest?
Naomi: Well, with a seafood starter I would suggest a dry white wine and with the curry, perhaps something a little more robust…
Male diner: No, no no, I don’t want to order two bottles of wine thank you!
Naomi: Oh, no sir, we have wines available by the glass or by the small carafe as well as by the bottle. Why don’t you have a glass of our house dry white wine with the seafood and then a small carafe of our house Shiraz red with the main course?
Male diner: Is there any other choice apart from the Shiraz. I’m not too keen on Shiraz these days.
Naomi: Well, we have an excellent Argentinian Malbec sir…
Male diner: Done ! I’ll have that. A glass of dry white wine with the starter and a small carafe of the Malbec with the main course. Oh and some still mineral water please. Well done, young lady! I’m looking forward to my meal after all now!!
