ANJALI RAO, TALK ASIA:Hi, I'm Anjali Rao in Seoul. My guest today is the movie star heartthrob and the most recognizable face in South Korea, Jang Dong-Gun. This is Talk Asia. This is Talk Asia.Things really started to take off for you in 2000 when you had a starring role in the movie Friend, which at the time was the highest-grossing Korean film ever. What was it like being a part of something so huge?
《亚洲名人聊天窒》安姿丽：大家好，我是安姿丽，在首尔为您带来今天的节目。我今天的来宾是电影偶像明星，也是韩国最多人认识的面孔:张东健。欢迎收看《亚洲名人聊天室》。你在2000年主演《朋友》之后，事业就开始起飞，当时《朋友》也是有史以来票房最高的韩国影片。参与如此庞大的一场盛事有什么感觉?
JANG DONG-GUN, KOREAN ACTOR:When I first chose the film, even after we'd filmed the entire movie, no one really expected-I certainly didn't expect, nor did any of the actors expect-that it would be so well received. My intention for the film was to show a different side of myself. I actually believed that it was more of an artistic film in that sense, but because it became so popular at the time, I somehow think that the popularity may have, in a sense, undermined the true artistic value that the movie might actually have.
韩国演员 张东健：我一开始选择这部影片的时候，甚至直到片子杀青之际，都没有人想到——我完全没想到，其他演员也都一样——根本没想到这部影片会这么受欢迎。我当初出演这部影片是为了要展示向己不同的一面。我其实认为这部影片比较像是艺术片，但因为后来非常热门，所以就某种程度来说反而降低了这部片真正的艺术价值。
ANJALI RAO, TALK ASIA:That movie though paved the way for your starring role in Taegukgi about the Korean War, which again smashed all known box-office record（s）. Tell us about your experiences of that film.
《亚洲名人聊天窒》安姿丽：不过，那部电影让你后来有机会主演《太极旗飘扬》这部关于朝鲜战争的电影，而且又再次打破了所有的票房纪录。请告诉我们你拍摄这部影片的经历。
JANG DONG-GUN, KOREAN ACTOR:The theme of the movie is the Korean War. The Korean War was one of the most significant historical events in modern Korean history. I think that its significance is something that could be well expressed and presented in a film. Personally, my role in the film's was quite appealing to me, and I was quite keen on doing it. And my grandfather's birthplace is in North Korea, and I had heard many stories about the Korean War as a child when I was growing up.
韩国演员 张东健：这部影片的主题是朝鲜战争。这是韩国现代史当中最重要的一个历史事件。我认为电影能够充分表达并且呈现这个事件的重要性。就我个人来说，我在片中饰演的角色很吸引我，因此非常希望参与演出。而且我的祖父出生于朝鲜，所以我小时候听过很多朝鲜战争的故事。
ANJALI RAO, TALK ASIA:So in 2006 you staged a one-man protest in front of the general assembly here against the government's new policy on domestic films. Didn't last very long though, only a couple of minutes before you got swamped by thousands of fans. Are you concerned about the current state of the film industry in South Korea, as so many others are?
《亚洲名人聊天窒》安姿丽：2006年，你在这里的国会议事堂展开一个人的示威活动，反对政府对国产影片的新政策。不过没有持续太久，因为几分钟后你就被数以千计的影迷困住了。你和许多人一样对韩国电影产业的现状感到忧虑吗?
JANG DONG-GUN, KOREAN ACTOR:Many think the industry is stagnating, but I differ in opinion. In total I've had 15 years of acting, and in the film industry I've had 10 years of experience. Looking back on those 10 years, I can see there'd always been ups and downs within the industry. And when you say things are slow and not going well in the field, the difference rather depends on how many good Korean films have been made. As of now, the reduced quota of films, the rising wages, and also because of the poor performance of the Korean films this year, people are saying things are going bad. I think it only means good films have not been produced lately, that's al l. So I still have a positive outlook, and I believe as more good films are made, positive sentiments will be picked up quickly.
韩国演员 张东健：许多人认为韩国电影产业已经陷入停滞，但我不同意。我总共已经演了15年的戏，在电影方面也有 10年的经验了。回顾这10年，我可以看到这个产业一直都有高低起伏。如果说这个领域各方面发展缓慢，情况不好，这其实取决于最近究竟拍出了多少部好的韩国影片。就目前而言，由于影片配额减少，工资提高，再加上韩国影片今年表现不佳，所以很多人就说这个产业已经开始走下坡路。我认为这只是表示最近没有拍出好的影片而已。所以，我对未来的展望还是乐观的，而且我认为只要拍出多一点的好片子，正面的情绪就会很快被带动起来。
