and one of the good-natured criticisms I've gotten from students when I teach

this course is I use too many foreign words,

but sometimes words are hard to translate

The overriding virtue is gonna be moderation

Isn't that a yucky word in English I mean,

if your parents tell you "be moderate with your students "

"Boring" and so somehow we associate moderation with boring The word in

German actually, you know Germans like long words is mas halten kronen

which means "to be able to hold"

kronen means "to be able to" halten means "to hold"

and mas means "the mean"

so "to be able to hold the mean"

so to keep your whole self in some kind of balance

Not to just be concerned with the honor

Not just to be concerned with free-givingness,

but that somehow all these positive qualities

have to be in some balance for you as a person,

as a knightly person, as a noble person
