He focuses on interdisciplinary approaches
to understanding the adolescent brain development
and this development period
as a unique opportunity for early intervention
He also has his eye toward policy implications of this work
So thank you so much for being with us today
Thank you very much
It's really a pleasure to be here
and to have an opportunity to stretch our thinking a bit
about some of the questions that have come up
And it's also great to follow
so many really strong presentations
that have helped to set the stage for the things that I want to say
This is the essence of the point that I want to make
that although there may be many intervals
in the development trajectory
within which these factors become important
I'm gonna argue that adolescence
particularly early adolescence which overlaps
some of the childhood studies
as Susan Medley mentioned before
creates a perfect storm of negative synergy
You've already heard about the negative spirals
related to sleep/stress/metabolic interactions
metabolic balance
and I'm gonna argue that
when we think about what's happening
in terms of brain, behavior, social context interactions
at the onset of puberty
and into adolescence
that the combination of these two are creating
a huge high impact storm of effects
that influence not just obesity and physical health
but a wide range of health issues
That's really what I want to talk about today
A broad framework of thinking about health
I'm gonna step back for few minutes
and talk about the health paradox of adolescents
I call it paradox
because from one perspective
adolescence is the healthiest period of lifespan
