在国庆期间追完了一部只有十集的热播短剧Emily in Paris，相信很多小伙伴也都看了。
The show follows Emily, a Chicago-based marketing associate who takes her boss’s place to work and relocate in Paris. There she struggles to achieve success in the workplace while searching for love and experiencing incidents when her American sensibilities clash with Parisian [pə'rizjən] culture.
这部剧讲的是刚毕业不久、来自芝加哥的Emily，在她所在的公司收购了一家法国奢侈品营销公司后，出乎意料地在巴黎得到了自己梦寐以求的工作。
到了巴黎后她努力融入法国文化，开始交新朋友，也遇到了好几位男生。
剧情比较玛丽苏但看着很轻松愉悦。
看完这部剧我就在想一个问题，法国人的爱情观到底是怎样的？
How do French people think about love and relationship? Why it seems so easy for them to flirt with other people without feeling any pressure?
在很多人看来比较难以接受的事，比如出轨、有伴侣却还对很多人调情等等，在他们看来似乎只有一句 “This is Life” 般的云淡风轻。
After watching Emily in Paris, I feel like I understand French People’s philosophy on love a little bit more.

They think about love not in black and white, but in gray.
对法国人来说，爱情不是非黑即白，而是处于灰色地带
The French are groomed to think about love not in the absolutes of total love or rejection, but in nuances and a range of possibilities.
While we grow up thinking about love in black and white, they grow up in gray.
他们不是以绝对的爱、完全的接受或拒绝来考虑爱情，而是以细微差别和一系列可能性来思考。
我们总觉得爱情要么是黑的要么是白的，但对他们来说是灰色的、充满不确定性的。
在Emily in Paris这部剧里面这一点尤为明显。
When Gabriel’s girlfriend Camille first met Emily, she kissed her.
Lily Collins who played Emily asked the show’s creator Darren Star why Camille kissed Emily--was that on purpose? Does Camille like it? What does that mean? Is there a future between them?
在第一集男主Gabriel的女友Camille跟Emily初次见面就亲了她。
Emily的表情满是不解。
饰演者Lily Collins也曾就这个话题问过编剧Darren Star（也是《欲望都市》的编剧）
Camille亲Emily的目的是什么。
Darren说：I don't know. It's all ambiguity. Who knows? Let's just see what happens.
“这事儿充满了不确定性。谁知道呢？看看后面会发生什么。”
这种剧情逻辑就很法式，凡事都可以很自然地发生，可能当下很想亲吻就亲吻了，并不追求一定要有什么结果。
就像看起来很渣男的Gabriel，跟Emily调情亲了她，却没有想要有下一步的发展。
And also in our previous episode, we talked about the film Under the Tuscan Sun. The main character Francis also thought she has met the right one until she realized the Italian guy she’s dating already has a girlfriend.
之前的节目里我们聊到过的电影《托斯卡纳艳阳下》，女主最后也以为终于遇到了对的人，没想到那个意大利男人也只是在跟她调情，自己其实已经有女朋友却不觉得有什么问题。

They don’t chase for perfection. They think a good relationship can be complicated.
法国人不追求完美。他们认为一段好的关系可以是复杂的。
印象很深的是在做别人小三的Emily的法国女上司Sylvie，她在Emily质问自己为什么要维系一段那么让人心累的关系的时候，苦笑着说：
Sometimes the best relationships are complicated.
有时候最好的关系是复杂的。
这在Emily看来是难以理解的。
Emily says she’s not the one who can share a crepe with other people, she needs to own the whole cake. It’s just that simple.
But Sylvie is different. She doesn’t need a marriage. Though she’s painful being the third wheel, she simply hopes to enjoy the process.
Emily是说出“我不接受和别人分享同一块可丽饼”的人，对她来说恋爱关系应该是很简单、可以活在阳光下的。
但Sylvie接受一段关系可以是不完美的，甚至于婚姻也可以是复杂而包容的。
Sylvie情夫的正宫老婆还在误以为Emily喜欢自己老公的时候对她说了一句：
I think you will be a much better fit for my husband.
“我觉得你会更适合我老公。”
至于比谁更适合、是比自己还是比起其他的情妇，她也没点明。
在她看来这些似乎都是可接受的。
当然了他们或许不代表法国大众，但法国人确实更能接受生活是不完美的。
For French people, the imperfections in life are totally acceptable.
Emily’s colleague Luc once said to her,“American films always have happy endings. That’s unrealistic.”
He says he prefers a “French ending” that is tragic--because “this is life.”
Emily的同事Luc就曾对Emily说：美国电影总有happy ending，这在法国人看来是不现实的。
而法国电影总是以悲剧结尾，因为“这就是生活”——比只是开心还是不开心，完美还是不完美，要复杂得多。
They simply believe that one has to balance sweet with stinky in life.

They live in the moment.
对法国人来说，重要的不是结果，而是过程。
Thirdly, it’s kind of cliche but it’s true, the French really do live in the moment. For them, it’s not the destination that counts, but the journey.
法国人真的是把“活在当下”践行得淋漓透彻。
在Emily得知Gabriel已经和Camille分手、恢复单身后，她主动找了Gabriel一起过了夜。
之后Emily说觉得他们不应该再见面了，担心伤害Camille。
Gabriel却很简单地回答说：
We never really had a chance but at least now, we have this one perfect thing.
“我们其实从未真正有过机会在一起。但至少现在，我们拥有了一个完美的夜晚。”
You can say Gabriel is irresponsible. He has never ever made any promises to Emily. He enjoys being with her, so he just does what he wants to do.
The French live in the moment. Maybe that’s why many people say no one would judge you for doing nothing in Paris.
They think many of us live to work, but they work to live.
活在当下——这也是为什么大家总说“在法国，没有人会因为你什么事都不干就评判你。”
很多人生活是为了工作，对他们来说工作是为了要享受生活。
所以法国也是世界上带薪假期最长的国家之一，这点真是让人羡慕了。
