U.S. President Joe Biden said on Sunday he had pardoned his son, Hunter Biden, who had been convicted of making false statements on a gun background check and illegally possessing a firearm.
美国总统乔·拜登周日表示，他已经赦免了他的儿子亨特·拜登，亨特此前曾因在枪支背景调查中做虚假陈述和非法持有枪支而被定罪。
He had also pled guilty to federal tax charges.

In a statement released by the White House, Biden explained his decision for the pardon, saying, "No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter's cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son."
在白宫发布的一份声明中，拜登解释了他的赦免决定：“任何一个理性的人在看了亨特案件的事实后，都会得出这样的结论：亨特被单独针对只是因为他是我的儿子。”
The White House had said repeatedly that Biden would not pardon or commute any sentences given to his son.

The younger Biden, a recovering drug addict, had become a target of Republicans, including President-elect Donald Trump.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump called Biden's pardon "an abuse and miscarriage of Justice!"

Hunter had faced sentencing for the false statements and gun convictions on Wednesday.

In September, he pled guilty to federal charges of failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes while spending lavishly on drugs, sex workers and luxury items. He faced sentencing in that case on December 16.

Biden senior said he hoped Americans would understand "why a father and a President would come to this decision."
