Trump has vowed to defend TikTok
Trump, who had pushed for a TikTok ban during his previous stint in the White House, voiced his opposition to a ban in a major U-turn during his recent presidential campaign. The president-elect was also quizzed about TikTok during his appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” last weekend.
Trump’s stance on TikTok is being closely watched after a federal appeals court last week upheld a law that could lead to the platform being banned in the U.S.
“I used TikTok, so I can’t really, you know, I can’t totally hate it,” he said, during the interview, pointing to his election campaign. “It was very effective.” If TikTok were banned, “something else is going to come along and take its place,” Trump added. “And maybe that’s not fair.”
“I’m going to try and make it so that other companies don’t become an even bigger monopoly,” he responded, when asked whether he will protect TikTok once he’s in office.
