CRI News Reports:China to Build Electronic Product Quality Control System
China is promoting an electronic quality supervisory network, a new product identification and tracking system, nationwide to protect the rights and interests of consumers.
Song Mingchang is an official with the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, the country's top quality watchdog.
"At present, over 32 thousand enterprises have employed the system. It covers wide range of products, including food, agricultural products and others."
He adds China's top quality control authority plans to include all the products made in China into the new online system, which already covers 1 billion categories.
Zhang Yulan, a customer at a supermarket, says she's benefited from such a system.
"I think these products are more reliable. The information of manufacturers, production date, everything is clear."
According to the quality control body, it plans to cover all the information of the products in the country, from raw material, processing, and final product to the distribution circle.
In addition, all food products pre-packaged for the upcoming Olympics will be labeled electronically to ensure food safety for the athletes and officials from around the world.
