UN: 99 Percent of China's Food Exports Safe
The United Nations on Wednesday released a report confirming that in general Chinese exported food products are safe as 99 percent of the Chinese exported food products passed the tests under UN standards.
However, with food safety incidents breaking out in China these years, especially after the problematic milk powder incident, World Health Organisation Adviser Anthony Hazzard said the government must reform and tighten supervision, and gave his suggestions on strengthening food agencies.
"To me, if they want to have a better integrated system, they must give that coordinating agency the strength, the power and the resources to carry out their work."
Khalid Malik, UNDP's Resident Representative in China praised China's progress in food safety these years and expressed that UN would continue to support China's effort in improving its food safety system.
