Guinea's coup leader captain Moussa Dadis Camara has declared himself leader of the country's interim government. Several hundreds of soldiers backing Camara paraded into streets to show strength.
The military-led group said it would hold power for two years after initially promising elections within 60 days.
Captain Moussa Camara was speaking in a broadcast on state TV.
"The National Council for Democracy and Development has no ambition to stay in power forever. The only reason is our ambition to ensure territorial integrity."
The group set a curfew in the capital Conakry, where soldiers circulated in tanks and jeeps armed with rocket launchers.
The military group announced on Tuesday that it had seized control of the West African country after the death of its President Lansana Conte.
