Unit 4 Helping Mr Lan
The cubs'most interesting job in Dollar-a-Job Week was for old Mr Lan.
He asked the cubs to mend a bookshelf for him.
'I'll tell you what to do,'Mr Lan said.
'I've got everything we need to mend it,'
He showed them a piece of wood,some nails,a hammer,a saw,a ruler and a pencil.
'The piece of wood is 30 centimetres wide but it's longer than 80 sntimetres,'
Mr Lan said.'We must cut off a piece.
Measure 80 centimetre for one end,John.
Then draw a line across with this pencil.'
John measured 80 centimetres from one end with the ruler
and drew a line across the wood.
'Now you cut the wood with the saw,Peter,'
Mr Lan said.'Cut it along the line.'
Sawing the wood was the most difficult part, but Peter did it well.
'The next thing is to nail the piece of wood onto the shelf,'Mr Lan said.
Pasty held the piece of wood while John hit in the nails with the hammer.
Soon they finished the job.'Thank you, children,'Mr Lan said.
