切尔诺贝利核泄露事件 Chernobyl
Rob G. Another depiction of the notion that progress is met with sacrifices can be seen in the major nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl. During the early 1980's technological advancements set nuclear power on the fast track to success. Yet, for all the scientific progress made in the field to keep nuclear power safe, in 1986 the power plant in Chernobyl, Ukraine exploded. A series of operator actions, including the disabling of automatic shutdown mechanisms led to the release of deadly fission products into the atmosphere. This left hundreds dead and caused severe fallout all over the city. Even though we made lengthy progress in nuclear power we were met with sacrifices: thirty people killed and thousands contaminated with radiation.
