Calfornia community braces for mudslides, flooding
加州社区迎接洪水泥石流
In Glendora, California -- they're preparing for possible mudslides. Thousands of extra sandbags have been brought in, and locals are piling them four and five high. The hope is that, along with these concrete barriers, it will be enough to protect their homes from mud and flooding. Residents have been encouraged to evacuate ahead of a powerful storm front that is expected to soak the area. Compounding matters for locals is the fact that Glendora sits at the foot of a mountain which was badly scorched by wildfires.

Texas same-sex marriage ban ruled unconstitutional
德州同性婚姻禁令被判违宪
A partial victory for gay rights advocates. This time, in Texas. The lone-star state's ban on same-sex marriage has been ruled unconstitutional by U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia. That assessment however doesn't mean the ban is going away. Garcia also declared a 'stay' on the decision -- which keeps the ban in effect. The two couples who fought the state's ban on gay marriage cheered the decision on as an encouraging sign.

Hundreds rescued off Italian coast
意大利海岸数百人获救
These are just one boat load of the hundreds of migrants Italy's navy and coast guard say they rescued from the seas around Sicily in a single 24-hour period. Navy vessels intercepted three dingies each packed with more than 90 people. Coastguard patrols picked up another 218 aboard an 18-metre boat that ran into trouble. Italy's a major gateway into Europe for migrants whose arrival by sea tripled in 2013 from the year before. Numbers have been driven up by Syria's civil war and conflict in the Horn of Africa.
