Shot 的意思有很多, 比方說打針也可以是 shot, 或是照像也可以說是 shot. 還有就是投籃也叫 shot. 像我有一次看老美打籃球, 有人投了一個漂亮的三分空心, 其他人就說, Nice shot! 所以 shot 原指投籃的意思, 引申為著投投看,去嘗試看看的意思. 所以如果你要鼓勵別人去試一試, 你就可以說, “Come on, give it a shot!” 或是要別人盡全力去試, 就是 give your best shot. 記得在 South Park 這部電影中, 有一個老師就對那群滿口髒話的小孩說, “Come on, give your best shot!”
在口语中我们可以用 have/get a shot at something 来表示 “有机会去尝试着做某事”，例如：I can’t get the last two answers in this crossword – here, you have a shot.I thought I’d have a shot at making my own wine since we’ve got all these grapes.
