Former S. Korea sex slave calls for compensation
韩国二战慰安妇要求赔偿
A former South Korean sex slave has spoken out at a conference in Tokyo, demanding Japan compensate all those forced into sexual slavery during World War II.
Kim Bok-dong, 88, said she was once a sex slave for Japanese soldiers during the conflict which ended 70 years ago. She said that ties between the two countries could not move forward without a resolution on the issue of sex slavery.
"Despite how much I refused, I had to surrender to the threats and blackmail that led to me going to a foreign country, like that hot place in Namyang, into a battlefield, where I suffered for many years. Before Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe repents his wrongdoings in the past, changes his mind, and solves this sex slavery issue, there will be no reconciliation," Kim said.
