16.9 bln yuan in illegal use uncovered in Chinese lottery industry

An audit by the China National Audit Office has found 16.9 billion yuan in the lottery industry was used illegally.
This amounts to over US$ 27 billion or roughly 26 percent of the total money that was audited.
The problem also covered more than 850 public welfare programmes.
The main illegality with the audited money concerned false declarations and embezzlement. That amount came to 4.29 billion yuan.
The audit also found over 9 billion yuan parked in purchase and concealed accounts.
