托福独立写作题目:All school teachers should be required to take courses every five years to update their knowledge.
托福独立写作范文:
Education should be a life-long pursuit for people in every walk of life, but for teachers, in particular, since they are the ones charged with educating people. Some authorities suggest that teachers should be required to take courses every five years to update their knowledge, but this is not often enough. Teachers should be required to take a few hours each year of workshops
First of all, teachers are professionals and so requirements for continuing education should comport with the standards for other professions. Teachers should not wait five years before taking a course on their subject area of expertise. Many lawyers and doctors have to do a few hours each year so teachers should, too.
Second of all, many important things that teachers should know about might happen in a five-year span. If teachers wait for five years before learning about breaking developments in pedagogy or even new advances in their field, their school system and students will fall behind. For example, if scientists make a discovery about the Higgs boson in 2012 and high school physics teachers wait until 2017 to learn about it, a whole generation of high school graduates will depart for college without knowing about a fundamental new discovery.
Finally, while teachers should be involved in courses more often than every five years, I don’t think, in every case, that they should have to “take” the course. Teaching a course to colleagues would require the seminar instructor to adequately familiarize himself with his topic so that could be sufficient to meet the spirit of the continuing education requirement. For instance, if a civics teacher wanted to do a seminar on Obamacare and knew enough to offer an accredited course on the topic, he should be able to do this in lieu of taking a class on a current major legislative policy.
Clearly, teachers, as professionals, need to stay engaged in their work by keeping up with our fast-changing world through frequent seminars, workshops or in-service days. Nevertheless, teaching other teachers should be permissible in place of taking a class.
