60.买房
"If you leave now you're going to cut it close!" Jan said.
She wasn't cut out for the stress of buying a home.
"They will cut off our credit if you don't get there on time!"
"I'm gone!" Dave said, cutting Jan's words of warning short.
But Jan was still worried. She still wasn't sure they could afford the house.
Previously they had always cut their coats according to their own cloth.
This would put them in debt. And Jan wasn't sure they could cut corners enough to make the additional payments.
They had already cut back on their spending a month ago.
It had just surprised her to see Dave's obvious desire for a larger house.
It was like he had a dark side that she had never seen.
He had even cut her down in front of the real estate agent, saying that she didn't understand the system.
Jan told him to cut it out! But Dave just laughed like it was a good cut up!
He really wanted the house.
And so Jan was troubled; having this new house would really cut both ways.
They'd be comfortable, but they would be financially strapped!
When Dave returned he wasn't happy.
"Well, now we won't have to cut down on our spending. Happy?"
It broke Jan's heart to hear those harsh words. She cut away to go cry by herself.
Looking at their wedding photo in their room, Jan almost cut out Dave's photo. But she didn't.
She loved him even if he didn't understand her need to not be in debt.
Now they had to find another house.
Hopefully a cheaper one!
