Bo stood on the comer and passed out leaflets. It was his new part-time job!
波站在街角发传单。这是他新找的一份兼职工作！
Having people say no, or swear in his face was part and parcel of the job!
这份工作的主要内容是被人拒绝或者遭人白眼！
One day, however, an old friend passed by and recognized Bo!
可是有一天，一位老朋友路过并认出了波！
But Bo didn't see him so he passed by on the other side-he was too embarrassed on Bo's behalf.
但是波没有看到他，所以他也没有表示同情——他真替波感到害臊！
They had been in the same class together at law school.
他们是法学院的同班同学。
Bo was finally kicked out after not getting a passing grade! So they had all parted company on bad terms!
由于没有拿到及格分数，波最后被开除了！所以他们分手时关系都不怎么样！
The next day another friend went past in a crowd.
第二天另外一位朋友随着人群经过这里。
The news had been passed down that this was where Bo was and he wanted to see if it was true!
消息已经传开，说波就在这里, 他想看看是不是真的！
As he passed Bo's way, however, Bo recognized him!
可是当他从波这边走过去的时候，波认出了他！
He stopped passing out leaflets and just stared.
他停止发传单，两眼直发呆。
The friend passed up the chance to talk and turned to walk away!
那位朋友放弃了说话的机会，转身走了！
Although he passed over a painful meeting, he almost fell to the ground as a wave of regret passed through him; this was their entire fault!

He and the others had participated in the cruel joke that had made Bo fail the tests!

Now here was Bo, living amongst the lowest of the low!

But it was Bo who was the better person!

Bo knew that if he passed on the information that he had been tricked, all of the friends would be expelled.

So he chose himself over all of them!
所以他情愿放过大家自己受罪！
You never know if a person is living low for himself or for others!
你永远无法知道一个人生活窘迫到底是为了自己还是为了别人！
