MR HARDIE:
No,I haven't.
RECEPTIONIST:
Well,just a moment,please.I've got a single room with bath.
MR HARDIE:
That's fine.
RECEPTIONIST:
May I have your name,please?
MR HARDIE:
Hardie,Alan Hardie.H-A-R-D-I-E.
RECEPTIONIST:
Thanks,Mr Hardie.Now would you fill in this registration card,please?
MR HARDIE:
Sure.
RECEPTIONIST:
And would you mind printing in block letters?
MR HARDIE:
All right.There you are.
RECEPTIONIST:
Thank you.And would you mind signing your name please,Mr Hardie?

RECEPTIONIST:

MR HARDIE:
Yes.I want to get some souvenirs. Where should I go?
RECEPTIONIST:
Try the big department stores in Bourke Street.
MR HARDIE:
Bourke Street,eh?How do I get there?
RECEPTIONIST:
You can catch a bus outside the hotel.

Hardie 先生在回旅馆的路上和出租汽车司机聊天.Hardie先生是昆士兰人.昆士兰是澳大利亚北部的一个州,气候好,旅游事业发达,因此很出名.那位司机碰巧是他的同乡,而且是个话匣子!
MR HARDIE:
Travelodge,please.
DRIVER:
Right.Are you staying at the Travelodge?
MR HARDIE:

1.POLITE WAYS TO ASK SOMEONE TO DO SOMETHING FOR YOU 有礼貌的请求别人为你做某些事情
May I have your name,please?
(Yes) Certainly./O.K.
Would you sign here,please?
(Yes)Sure.
Would you mind signing here,please?
(No)Not at all./Certainly./All right.
Do you mind helping me?
(No) Not at all./O.K.
注意:
*Would you + verb(动词)是表示请求的一种客套格式.Would you mind + verb + -ing 是另一种格式,语气显得特别礼貌.
*Do you mind + verb + -ing 是比较普通的请求格式
*对would/do you mind ...的回答通常是说No(见上),表示"并不介意"实际上就是表示同意.
*对上面列举的各种要求,一般总是同意的,因为提出这样请求的人总以为对方不会反对,否则就不提出请求了.
2.POLITE WAYS TO OFFER TO HELP SOMEONE 有礼貌的表示愿意为别人服务
May I help you?

在商店里可以听到这样的对话:

3.TALKING TO FOREIGNERS IN CHINA 在中国与外国人交谈
向外国旅游者常常可以问:
How long have you been in China?
回答可能是:
| since July
(I've been here) | for a year
问句 How long have you been ...用现在完成时.你一定还记得,这种时态用来把过去和现在做某种联系.
I came here a | I've been here for a year.
year ago and
I'm still here. | I've been here since last year.
请记住:
Since 用来表明从过去的某个时间一直到说话的时刻.
For 用来表明一段时间.
CONVERSATIONAL DEVICES
a) Sure 这个词有好几个意思,在Dialogue 1 表示"行,我愿意."
b) All right 也有许多意思.在Dialogue 1 也表示"行,我愿意"
c) There you are 也有许多意思,在Dialogue 1 表示"这件事我已经做完了".或"你要我做的事我已经做了".
