whittle down - to reduce or diminish something gradually by taking away a little of it at a time 削减

candidates - an applicant or suitable person for a job 申请求职者

short-list - to put somebody or something on a final list of candidates for a job or award 通过初审

profile - a brief description that summarizes the characteristics of somebody or something 简介
