2 keep up
It means "to continue to do or pay regularly ". 意思是：继续支付；继续做。注意这个短语是指有规律的坚持继续做某事，而不是之在一个时间段一直做某事。For example: If you don't keep up with your payment, you'll lose your house.如果你不继续付款，你的房子就保不住了。记住了keep up with something 是继续某事。We also can say it as "keep something up". For example:Well done! Keep it up.(Keep up the good work.) 干得好，继续好好干下去。注意这里的用法是keep (something) up(something).如果是代词，放于keep 和up之间，如果是名词，可放于放于keep 和up之间，也可用于短语的后面。这个短与没有动名词keep up doing something的用法。

3 hold on
It means "keep something longer" 这个是继续的意味，但准确的说来是坚持的意思，与go on和keep up所讲的继续的意思不同。. For example: She couldn't hold on longer and and fell into blackness, she drowned. 她再也坚持不住了，眼前一片漆黑，昏了过去。这有忍受的意思在里面。How much longer do you think we can hold on? 你认为我们还能坚持多久? If we want to say"坚持做某事"，how should we put it? Let's look at the sentence: A good man will hold on to his job. 有本事的人是不会离开自己的工作岗位的。Pay attention to the preposition "to"in this phrase "hold on to something".

4 stick out
It means "to continue doing something to the end even if it is difficult or boring ". 坚持下去：忍受下去。注意这里注重讲的是坚持有难度或是乏味的事情，做这些事情有不爽之感，甚至有勉强之感。For example: She didn't like the course, but she stuck it out to get the certificate. 她虽然不喜欢这门课，但是还是耐着性子坚持把它学完了，得到了证书。Pay attention the phrase to structure: stick it/something out.指示代词放于stick和out 之间。即便是名词，也如此。He is determined to stick the race out even if he finishes last. 即便是他跑到最后一名，他也要坚持跑完。

5 carry on
It means "to continue doing something". 继续做，坚持干。这是只在一个时间段不停的做某事。The uses of it is similar to go on-----carry on, carry on with something, carry on doing something. Look at the following example sentences: He is in hot water but he finds courage to carry on. 在水深火热之中，他勇于坚持到底。They managed to carry on with their experiment in spite of difficulties. 他们不顾困难设法继续完成了他们的实验。He carried on peeling the potatoes. 他不停地削土豆皮。

6 keep on
It means "to continue doing something". 继续做，坚持干。It completely equals to “carry on”. The uses of it is similar to go on—— keep on , keep on with something, keep on doing something.
