A husband, proving to his wife that women talk more than men, showed her a study which indicated that men use on average only 15000 words a day, whereas women use 30000 words a day.

She thought about this for a while and then told her husband that women use twice as many words as men because they have to repeat everything they say.

1.prove
prove最原始的意思是“证明”，因此是应该有一个事实支撑的结果。BBC里的prove就是证明她们的价值的意思。turn out也有证明的意思，不过turn out有种惊讶的意思在里面。
prove作为及物动词：
1. 证明，证实：
In order to prove his point he showed them the latest sales figures.
为了证明他的观点，他给他们看了最新的销售数字。

2. 检验；试验；考验：

prove作为不及物动词：
证明是；发现为；显示：

2.on average
on average是平均起来的意思。
eg：On average we receive five letters each day. 我们平均每天收到五封信。

3.twice as many words as
twice as much as 和twice as many as 虽意思都是。。。两倍多
只是一个用于可数名词，一个用语不可数名词。
twice as much as 用语不可数名词之间的比较，而word是可数名词，所以这里用twice as many as。
