Let the Dreaming Flowers Burst into Bloom
The famous actor John Lithgow said, " Everybody is a dreamer." When we were little children, we had many strange dreams. We dreamed we were Peter Pan; we dreamed we could talk to animals. As we grew up, our dreams changed. We dream, for instance, to own a house, to get a good job, to make a lot of money. It seems that our dreams turn to be more practical which proves we have become mature. But actually, it is ambition that we are losing.
Last year, one of my friends dropped out of college and flew to America to restart her college life. I was extremely surprised by her decision, so I asked why. Then she told me that she always dreamed that one day she could help reform the Chinese educational system. Sounds too naïve and idealistic? But nor for me. As I very much appreciate what she has done because her plan of building up a new-style of school contains many fresh details, including how to raise the necessary funds, what kind of teachers are needed and even how to promote the brand of her proposed school. I also admire her because of her attitude; her confidence and indeed her bravery when talking about this dream. Now she is striving to fulfill her dream while exposing herself to a whole new culture in the academic environment of her new university. And I don’t doubt at all that her dream will come true someday.
Her experience inspired me to reconsider the definition of dream. Different from hope, dream is the thing that you are always pursuing in your whole life, which can't be easily realized. But once it comes true, it will change yourself as well as people around you even the world.
The history of human beings is not only the history of striving but also one of dreaming. Without the dream of independence or the fight against the colonizers, the United States wouldn't be as strong a country as it is today; without the dream of flying like a bird, the Wright brothers wouldn't have invented the airplane; without the dream of racial equality or the non-violent resistance during the civil rights movement, many black people would probably be still living in worse conditions today than they did 60 years ago.
People dream. And dreaming pushes history forward. People strive. And striving makes dreams come true.
We are children of the information age but we are also under great pressure on account of the fierce competition we experience, as we face the serious task of job-hunting and the rising cost of living in our lives. Some of us are even worried about the coming of doomsday 2012. So many people have finally abandoned their so called "ridiculous" dreams. Why give up? Men are endowed with the ability to dream. Why waste the endowment?
The German philosopher Gothe said, " Dream no small dreams for they have no power to move the hearts of men." So, be a dreamer and dream a big dream. Remember, " You have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world " .
Ladies and Gentlemen, Let the Dreaming Flowers Burst into Bloom. The continuation of the dreams will ultimately realize through your zealous and persistent endeavor.
