19 people have been arrested for spreading online rumors following the deadly terror attacks that hit China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous region last week.
Local police officials say the suspects used fake online identities and disseminated reports of false terror attacks and death tolls through social networking platforms. Police say the rumors caused social panic and are a violation of China's criminal law.
Last week, two cities in Xinjiang were affected by organized violence. One of the attacks took place in Shanshan, leaving 24 police officers and civilians dead and 21 injured.
