I think we tend to remember extraordinary acts of kindness
我想，我们容易记住非同寻常的善举
simply because they are extraordinary
因为它们是非同寻常的
The act is a reminder to us of our common decency
那样的举动会让我们想起基本的礼貌
our desire to help other people, to care for other people
想起我们帮助他人、关心他人的愿望
which I think we all have as kids
我们小时候都有这些品德
but as we grow older we just kind of tend to forget.
但随着我们长大成人 似乎我们很容易就忘了这些品质
there was this one experience that I'll never forget
有一次经历是我永远也不会忘的
as a few years back when my wife and I were in Japan
几年前，我和我妻子去了日本
so my wife and I decided to visit this lovely little village in the countryside
我们计划去看看一个漂亮的乡下小镇
that we'd read about
我们是从书上了解到的这个小镇
and we lose track of time realized too late
玩着玩着我们就忘了时间，意识到的时候已经太晚了
that we've missed the bus
我们错过了巴士
and because we're out in the middle of nowhere

there's not another bus in time to take us to the airport into our flight
所以已经没有车能带我们去机场了
we tried to take a taxi
我们决定打车
but Tokyo was simply too far and nobody is willing to take us
但那里离东京实在太远了，没有人愿意送我们
we're becoming increasingly desperate
我们越来越绝望
and then just at that moment sort of mock our desperation

the heavens opened up and it started to rain
天空开始下起雨来
so it was really at our lowest point

when this elderly gentleman came up to us

we tried to explain to him as best we could

that we needed to get to Haneda Airport
说我们要去羽田机场
and we need to get there pretty quickly

we don't know if he understands a word we're saying
我们不知道从我们的话中他是否听懂了一点点
but ultimately he just kind of gestures for us to follow him
但最后他给我打手势让我们跟他走
at this point we're you know increasingly desperate
这个时候，你懂的，我们更加绝望了
so I figured why not whatever you got to lose

so before long we find ourselves back at we presumed to be his house

we have no idea what's going on

at this point we're completely confused

but then we go to his driveway and what do we see in his driveway

it's a taxi the guy's a taxi driver

he offers to drive us to Haneda

great, problem solved, incredible

we load up our luggage

and it takes us on this incredible drive through the countryside
出租车就带着我们踏上了一段绝妙的旅程，穿过乡村
through the mountains through the city
穿过群山，穿过城市
and it was like we were having our own kind of private tour of Japan, it was amazing
感觉像是我们私人订制的日本游一般，那种感觉太神奇了
honestly we were a little disappointed when it was over
说实话，最后我们还是有点小失望
we get to the airport and the most amazing thing happens
到了机场之后，最神奇的事情发生了
I asked him how much the fare is
我问他车费多少钱
and he says no no no, there's no fare
他说，不不不，不收钱
I said well please you know let me at least pay for the petrol
我说，那好吧，请至少让我给你点儿油钱吧
you know you just driven us all this way
是吧，你这么大老远地把我们送过来
He said no no no no no no no no
他说不不不不不不不，不用了
he just smiles and he he waves and he wishes us our best
他只是笑着跟我挥挥手，祝我们一路顺风
and he gets in his car and he's gone
然后钻进车就走了
it was then I realized I didn't even know his name
那时我才意识到我连他名字都不知道
so we board the plane, everything's fine
之后我们登机，一切顺利
and it was all because this this random man had seen that we needed help
这都得益于这个人偶然看到我们需要帮助
and he helped us
刚好他就帮上忙了
and you know that's something that I will always remember
这件事，我会一直记得
and so you know to our random Japanese Savior
对这位偶然帮助我们的日本救星
I just want to say thank you and to say that I will try to live by your example
我想说，感谢你的帮助，今生我会以你为榜样
try to do kindness as often as I can try
尽可能帮助别人
try to teach my kids Grace and goodness and kindness and charity
尽可能教育我孩子要懂得恩惠、善良、友好和慈悲
thank you for the reminder and thank you for the help
感谢你提醒了我，也感谢你帮助了我们
