Dutch Scientists Developing Artificial Womb
Scientists in the Netherlands have been given a large grant towards the research and development of the world's first artificial womb for humans. The scientists believe that artificial wombs will be able to save premature babies within ten years. Approximately 1 million babies die each year due to complications from preterm birth. The artificial womb would allow the preterm baby to receive oxygen and nutrients through the umbilical cord, providing more natural conditions for the final weeks of development.
