The boy wanted to work for the captain. He wanted to be a sailor. So he started his training to become a sailor.
那个男孩想为船长工作。他想成为一名水手。于是他开始接受训练,准备成为一名水手。
The ship was on the way to Brazil. We arrived there after twenty-two days. I said goodbye to the boy and the sailors.
这艘船在去往巴西的路上。我们在22天后到达那里。我向那个男孩和水手们道别。
Brazil was a new state in South America. Many people started a new life there. It was the same for me. I didn’t know anybody there.
巴西是南美洲的一个新国家。许多人在那里开始了新的生活。对我来说也是一样。我在那里谁也不认识。
Soon I met people who had sugar plantations. They became my friends. I liked Brazil very much. Soon I learnt the language. I had some money from the captain. I bought some small land in Brazil.
很快我就认识了拥有甘蔗种植园的人。他们成了我的朋友。我非常喜欢巴西。很快我就学会了这门语言。船长给了我一些钱。我在巴西买了一小块地。
Notes:
1.work for: 为……工作,“致力于……”可以用work at sth.。
2.on the way to: 在去……的路上,“相反地”可以用the other way round/around。
3.arrive: 抵达,“达成……;作出……”可以用arrive at sth.。
