This is Ghana, a country in West Africa.

It's home to around 32 million people and is known for its vibrant culture.
It's also where my family are from.
People in Ghana belong to different tribes or groups.
One of the biggest are the Asante, or Ashanti people, who were once part of a strong and powerful kingdom.
Fast forward to today, and an important part of Asante culture is in the news, and it's all to do with the British Empire.
For hundreds of years, Britain and many other European countries established colonies around the world,
meaning that the people trade and laws in these nations came under British control.
During this time, the British looted a large number of important items from Ghana.

But for the past 150 years, they've been sitting in British museums.

These items have deep spiritual and political significance to the Asante people, as I found out when I spoke to one of their leaders, Chief Agyeman Bonsu.
"For us it's not just an artifact. It is the soul of the kingdom.
And to have taken those items from us, robbed us of those important historical relics,
I mean, we would have loved to have had them here for the current and the future generations, we want to have them back."
Now the British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum are loaning 32 of these items back to Ghana.
It's part of a rout that's gone on for years about whether items taken by the British Empire from other countries should be returned.
The Ghanian government has called the loan a good starting point and a sign of some kind of healing and commemoration for the violence that happened.
The big boss of the Victoria and Albert Museum says that the new deal doesn't solve the debate, but it does start the conversation about what should happen to the looted items like these.
