Wahaha Livestream Sales Skyrocket 500% After Founder's Passing
Wahaha, the Chinese beverage behemoth, mourned the loss of its billionaire founder, Zong Qinghou, on February 25. However, within a week, the brand rebounded with a statement on its Douyin flagship, thanking supporters and urging rational shopping.
Despite initially delisting merchandise (later relisted), sales on the platform exploded between February 25 and March 1, with a staggering 500% surge in sales on February 28 compared to the previous day. Additionally, the livestream channel amassed 2 million new followers within seven days.
Remarkably, this growth occurred despite a pause in livestreams since Zong's passing. The first livestream after the hiatus on March 4 generated over 1 million RMB (approximately 138,953 USD) in just one hour. On Weibo, the topic "Wahaha official store sales increased 500% in 2 days" trended at number 19 with 51.22 million views.
