Gilani Voted as New Prime Minister by Parliament
Pakistan's parliament has elected former speaker of the house and a loyal aide to slain opposition leader Benazir Bhutto, Yousaf Raza Gilani, as the nation's new prime minister.
"I want to thank the sensible people of Pakistan, for voting according to their conscience and giving me this mandate to run the country."
Gilani says his first move will be to ask the National Assembly to pass a resolution seeking a UN probe into Bhutto's death and to release the Supreme court judges currently under house arrest.
Most of the 60 judges axed by Musharraf have been freed, but among those still held is former Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry.
