The Chinese newspaper, People's Daily, carries an article saying the Beijing Paralympic motto of "Transcendence, Integration, Equality" is reflected in nearly every scene at the Paralympic Games.
Paralympic rules allow visually-impaired runners and cyclists to use guides in competition. Runners and their guides are tied together with strings around their wrists or fingers. In track cycling, the guide rides on the front of the bike while the athlete pedals at the rear.
The People's Daily calls this a snapshot of the integration of able-bodied people and the disabled.
The athletes push their own limits with help from their guides. The paper says without trust, it would be hard to imagine how visually-impaired runners and cyclists could made it to the finish line.
The paper says that while sports are about personal feats, the Paralympic Games have proved that they are also about the cooperative spirit. It notes the outpouring of brotherly love between the guides and the athletes has become one of the most touching scenes at the Beijing games.
The paper adds people should expect to see integration beyond the games as well.
