Guangzhou-based JUSCO department stores have recently launched a new sales promotion.

With just a membership card and a minimal annual payment, customers can take home their desired goods and pay for them within the next 48 days. At the same time, they can also enjoy discounts and accumulating points.

Beijing Daily Messenger ran an article pointing out that it may not be as good a deal as it seems.

It carries a simple calculation showing that the discounts for purchases below 2,400 Yuan, or around 350 US dollars, are offset by the annual fee for a membership card. Customers have to consume more if they want to actually enjoy any benefits.

Some customers have shared similar views, saying that such a membership card is just like a credit card exclusive to JUSCO stores. The inconveniences of repayment procedures make the promotion less desirable.
