China to Further Construct Green Markets

The Ministry of Commerce has launched a nationwide campaign to build green markets to improve 1 .

Assistant Commerce Minister Fang Aiqing said Tuesday that more than 4,000 pilot markets have been established, and some 2 of them have passed green market authentication.

But the official said for a country with nearly 20 million wholesale and retail markets, the number of green markets is far from enough.

Beijing's Shimen Wholesale Market was rated a green market last year.

The market 4 its own inspection center to ensure food security, and carries out daily spot checks to avoid leaving pesticide residue on agricultural products. Traders whose products fail the inspection must leave the market.
