The People's Liberation Army air force put its most advanced warplanes on display in the suburbs of Beijing.
Besides the air show, China's air force has had lots of celebrations recently, including an international military forum themed "harmonious skies" which more than 300 senior air force officers from China and more than 30 other countries attended.
Celebrations also include an exhibition of weapons and equipment of the air force at the China Aviation Museum on the outskirts of Beijing.
Xu Qiliang, the air force commander, says after 60 years of development, China's air force has improved a lot, especially combat ability which now has achieved a great leap forward.
"China's air force has developed from nonexistence to a large troop, and now the PLA air force has become an integrated service comprising aviation troops, land-to-air missiles, radar and anti-aircraft troops, and paratroops."
Meanwhile, Xu Qiliang called for peaceful and harmonious use of space and air by the world's air forces.
He said air forces of different countries should enhance cooperation, exchanges and mutual trust in order to ensure mutual safety.
"In the future, China's air force will spend its efforts on promoting and deepening the cooperation and communications with other countries around the world, in a much more open and confident attitude. Our goal is to set up harmonious skies to make a peaceful coexistence."
