Exhibition of the Results of Sino-African Cultural Exchange and Co-op
An event known as the "2010 Focus on African Culture," which kicked off today (Thursday) in Beijing, is drawing widespread attention. Highlighting the long-term healthy cooperation and cultural exchange, this event will travel across China to get Chinese people up to speed about African culture and the Sino-African cultural exchange. Its major sub-event, called "Exhibition of the Results of Sino-African Cultural Exchange and Cooperation," also starts today.
The "2010 Focus on African Culture" is an event jointly organized by five government departments in China, including the Ministry of Culture and the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television.
An extension of the 2008 event, this time the aim is to introduce more information about African Culture to Chinese people. To achieve this, more time and more activities will be involved in this year's event, such as the major event "Exhibition of the Results of Sino-African Cultural Exchange and Cooperation."
Zhao Haisheng from the Ministry of Culture explains.
"Through a half-century of a friendly relationship with Africa, Chinese people have learned a lot about Africa in terms of economics, politics and culture. But we still need a deep understanding of them, especially of the culture. This exhibition is aiming to teach Chinese people more about African culture by displaying various activities and events about Sino-African cultural exchange and cooperation. The display will be divided into various subjects and fields like media cooperation, news publication, sports and cultural relics. People will see the outcomes of the cooperation in these fields."
Zhao indicates this exhibition is focusing on the past three years, 2007 to 2009, which are the latest updates on China-Africa exchange. The exhibition includes photos of cooperation events and activities, works of Chinese photographers in Africa and African and Chinese painters' works.
Li Bo is one of the visitors to the exhibition.
"I worked in Africa for a year and a half. This exhibition reminds me of the happy life there and the lovely African people, especially the kids there. And I think we can enhance cooperation in term of medical treatment. We can not only send medical teams to Africa, but also invite African medical workers to China, to get them trained in more knowledge about the medical system and more medical skills."
The exhibition will last until the 30th of this month.
