Chinese Rescuers Continue Door-to-door Search in Iwate
The Chinese international search and rescue team are continuing their relief work in Iwate prefecture.
The rescuers went through communities in Oofunato and conducted door-to-door search.
A body was found in one of the badly damaged houses in less than 30 minutes after the search began.
Peng Bibo is the chief medic of the team.
"We conducted door-to-door search with the help from local firefighters. We had to stop working at around 9 for two hours in the morning caused by a tsunami warning – there was a 6-meter tsunami at the other side of the mountain."
Rescue teams from the United States and Britain have also joined the local and Chinese rescuers to carry out relief work in the area.
Hundreds of foreign rescue workers are assisting quake and tsunami victims around the country.
So far they have rescued some 15-thousand people.
Snow or rain is expected late Wednesday in some regions, adding urgency to relief efforts.
