BMW X Tour Ready to Take off Again
Starting from 2006, BMW China has been running its Destination X-Tour for five consecutive years. Enrollment for this year's X-Tour is now began. What's special about this year's tour and how can people enter?
Here is our reporter Li Dong.
The BMW Destination X Tour is a self-drive tour organized by BMW China. The name X is endowed with multiple meanings: the tour has four lines shaped like an X. Four BMW convoys will finish the journey at the center of the X. X also represents the unknown, giving participants a feeling of challenge and adventure.
However, in a change from previous events, this year's tour is being during the cold of winter and there are just two routes.
They go through three of the most freezing provinces of northern China: Inner Mongolia, Jilin and Heilongjiang province.Shao Bin is the Head of Marketing at BMW Brilliance Automotive.
"Actually, the shape of the X-Tour line is not important. We attach more importance to the content and spirit of the X-Tour, which is adventure, teamwork, and joy. For the participants, it's what they see and what they experience that builds their impression of the X-Tour."
One of the two routes, the eastern one starts from Mohe in Heilongjiang province and the other one, the western route starts from Manzhouli. The two BMW convoys will meet at Ha'erbin, Heilongjiang province at the end of the tour.
Besides driving and exploring, Shao Bin says that promoting public welfare is another main theme of the X-Tour.
"In the past five years, the BMW X-Tour has donated 3,300,000 yuan to BMW Warm-Hart Fund. The money were mainly used for educational projects in underdeveloped areas of China. We also organize visits for clients to the schools and projects where the funds are spent. This year, the X-Tour will carry on its spirit of public welfare."
The weather and location will be a big challenge for this year's X-Tour participants, so there will be higher demand for X-Tour member's driving skills in the selection section.
Starting from tomorrow, people can log on to www.bmw.com.cn or call 400-800-6666 to enlist. Selected X-Tour members will go through a series of competitions by team, a team being four people in one car.
They will be tested for their teamwork, creativity, and physical strength, as well as driving skills. Each member of the winning team will have the opportunity to use a brand new BMW X3 free of charge, for one year.
