UN human rights council adopts a resolution on Syria

The United Nations Human Rights Council has adopted a resolution on Syria, condemning the Syrian government for violations of human rights in the country, but fell short of mentioning the opposition's role in the ongoing violence.
The resolution, tabled by the U.S., EU countries as well dozens of other UN members, was adopted by a vote of 41 in favour, 3 against and 2 abstentions in the Council's 19th session convened in Geneva.
China, Cuba, and Russian Federation voted against the resolution.
China's ambassador Liu Zhenmin says China is a strong advocate for political dialogue in Syria to find a peaceful solution to the crisis.
US cargo aircraft lands safely in Shenzhen despite tyre malfunction

A US cargo aircraft taking off from Tokyo has made a safe landing at the airport in the southern city of Shenzhen in Guangdong province after one of its tires had malfunctioned.
The airport authorities say the malfunction was reported yesterday evening when the plane, owned by the United Parcel Service of America Inc. (UPS), was flying to the Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport.
The airport launched an emergency rescue immediately after receiving the information from the control tower.
The plane carrying two crew members landed on the ground safely.
China welcomes U.S. efforts to expand high-tech trade
China says it welcomes all measures taken by the United States that are conducive to expanding bilateral trade of high-tech items.
A spokesman of China's Ministry of Commerce says till now, China has not seen any substantial moves from the United States to relax control over its exports to China.
He was responding to U.S. ambassador to China Gary Locke's remarks made recently in Shanghai about control of exports to China.
The spokesman says China hopes that the U.S. earnestly fulfill its commitments and change its discriminatory practices placed on China.
China AVIC to cooperate with U.S. jet maker
Aviation Industry Corp. of China (AVIC), the country's largest state-owned aircraft producer, says it will cooperate with the U.S.-based Cessna Aircraft Co. in producing business jets.
The AVIC has signed a framework agreement with Cessna's owner Textron Inc., stating that the two sides and the municipal government of Chengdu in southwest China will create a joint venture to produce business jets in Chengdu.
During the initial stage of the cooperation, the joint venture will build existing Cessna aircraft models including Citation Sovereign and Citation Latitude, and will develop new business jet models that meet the increasing market demands.
The three parties will strive to have the joint venture established before the end of this year, according to the agreement.
Senior Chinese official calls for boosting domestic demand
A senior Chinese official has called for more efforts to boost domestic demand at an international symposium attended by officials and experts from China and Japan held in Beijing.
Yang Weimin, vice minister of the Office of the Central Leading Group on Finance and Economic Affairs, says China will become a country with vast purchasing and production power after years of efforts.
He says China has set expanding domestic demand as its primary task for the next five years and will strengthen supervision over the market to protect consumers' rights.
Vice Premier urges elimination of fire risks, protection for firefighters
Vice Premier Hui Liangyu has urged the elimination of potential forest fire hazards and the creation of a "scientific" firefighting method to guarantee the safety of firefighters and other people.
His remarks came after a recent outbreak of forest fires in southwest China's Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, which have experienced significant decreases in precipitation in recent years.
The State Forestry Administration and its forest fire prevention office issued a statement after an emergency meeting, urging forest fire administrations at all levels to strictly supervise outdoor fire use and properly prepare for possible fires.
Chinato start annual fishing ban on Yangtze River
An annual three-month fishing ban will start next month on the Yangtze River in order to preserve stocks of fish.
Authorities say the ban, which will be in place from April 1 to June 30, will also take effect on the Hanjiang River, a key tributary of the Yangtze River that flows through central China's Hubei province.
All fishing activity and other actions that may threaten fish will be banned on the rivers during the period, while fishermen affected by the ban will receive subsidies. The government of Wuhuan will release about 50 million young fish into the rivers during the ban.
China confiscates 6 million illegal publications in first two months
Chinaconfiscated more than 6 million illegal publications during the first two months this year, with over 1,400 cases being involved.
The crackdown on pornography and illegal publications has expanded the scope from printed publications to online releases in recent years, according to a statement from the national office against pornographic and illegal publication.
The office has also intensified investigation and punishment to some government authorities who serve as a protective shield for the illegal act of producing and selling porn and illegal publications.
