West 33rd street outside New York City's Madison Square Garden renamed Muhammad Ali way to honor the boxing champ.
The 74-year-old died Friday after a 30-year battle with Parkinson's.
In 1971, Ali lost to Joe Frazier by unanimous decision in the so-called fight of the century…One of his eight bouts at the Garden.
An area outside the arena was named Joe Louis Plaza in 1984, permanently honoring another legendary boxer, who died in 1981.
Ali's honor will be temporary, according to Mayor Bill Di Blasio, who said Ali never backed down from a fight in or outside the ring.
