Got a pudgy pooch? A flabby tabby? Dr. Kirk Breuninger says you have to cut back on the treats:"Treats should not make up more than 10 percent of their daily caloric intake."
For dogs, try giving them low calorie baby carrots. For cats, go for catnip or cat grass.
And get them more exercise. For dogs, you know that's easy, just go for more walks, good for the dog, good for you: "So if they take their dog on a longer walk, not only are they showing their affection by interacting with them longer, but they're also getting that exercise themselves."
Exercising a cat calls for getting crafty. Try making a fitness trail using rolled up rugs to make tunnels or let them play with empty boxes or bags.
