Electronic terminals have been set up at Shanghai's two major airports for foreign visitors who have 144-hour visa-free status. Travelers who applied online at home and received approval for this type of entry status can now scan their passport at the airport and go. China's 144-hour visa-free entry policy has been in place since 2016 allowing passengers from 53 countries or regions to come into the country without a visa.
