In a blow to US president Donald Trump the Senate has passed a non-binding amendment opposing plans to withdraw troops from Syria and Afghanistan. It came after Trump urged a drawdown of troops in those two countries. The amendment warned a precipitous withdrawal of forces could allow terrorists of regroup and destabilize critical regions. Thursday's vote is the latest indication of divisions between Trump and the Senate on foreign policy matters. The last December despite Trump's objections the Senate voted to end US military support for the Saudi-led Coalition in Yemen war.
