During a series of panel discussions, President Xi Jinping expressed his concerns about various hot topics such as ecological protection, poverty alleviation, and high-quality growth.
When talking with legislators from Inner Mongolia, he stressed the importance of efforts to protect the grassland in the northern border areas, and called for more intensive efforts to preserve the local ecology.
Gong Mingzhu is the chairman of the region's development and reform commission. He pledged to maintain momentum in the fight against pollution.
"The foundations of ecological construction are still not solid enough. Once we become complacent with our efforts, some old problems will emerge again. It's like a boat sailing against the current. It must forge ahead or it will be driven back. For us, there is no shortcut to pollution control and environmental management. We have to bite the bullet and spare no efforts in achieving our goal."
Poverty reduction is also a big concern weighing on the mind of the Chinese leader.
China is aiming to eradicate poverty by 2020 and lift over 10 million rural people out of poverty this year.
Joining a discussion with legislators from Henan, Xi Jinping called for better implementation of the national rural revitalization strategy, giving priority to the grain supply, the supply-side reform in agriculture and the improvement of rural infrastructure.
Lu Xiaoming from the Guangdong University of Finance and Economics suggests Xi's instructions set a clear direction.
"President Xi has pointed out the key problems in carrying out the rural revitalization strategy and set direction for us to achieve the goal. And I believe with his instructions the strategy will finally be realized."
High-quality development of private enterprises was another topic of discussion between Xi Jinping and participants at the Two Sessions.
While talking with deputies from Fujian Province, Xi Jinping required favorable conditions to be created for the development of the private sector.
He also called on entrepreneurs to focus on their major business lines, which he indicated is important for the development of the real economy.
Robin Li, The CEO of Baidu, said he had been inspired by President Xi's speech.
"The business environment is obviously improving, especially for private companies. President Xi has expressed his instructions very clearly, and a lot of concrete measures that support the private sector were revealed in this year's government work report. I think this will inject vitality into the private sector and help to boost confidence when it comes to future growth."
