Person fell into Halemaumau crater. The overnight rescue forced firefighters to rappel into one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Dropping into the mouth of Kilauea, rescue teams fishing the victim out of the smoking cauldron. Slipped literally off the edge into the crater.
A 32 year old visitor now in stable condition after climbing over a safety rail for a better look, losing his footing and plunging seven storeys off the craters edge. Though Kilauea is not currently erupting, a year ago today the molten lava violently destroyed 700 homes. Drawing visitors from around the world, the accident at Kilauea comes after fatal Falls at Yosemite and Grand Canyon.
