Last month, he was involved in a huge argument on Chinese social media, with the mostly older fans of 40-year-old singer Jay Chou declaring victory over Cai's younger followers. Before the argument, the 21-year-old topped Sina Weibo's list of "super topics", which shows his current influence and power. The South China Morning Post described Cai as "a phenomenon influencing the music industry in China".

On July 26, the 21-year-old dropped his new single Young. Within just 20 seconds, it reached 1 million views and in only 3 days topped the music charts of Tencent's QQ music, one of the biggest online music services in China.

Cai's success comes from his "range of talents and dedicated fandom", Vice Media noted.

Cai wrote the song by himself to share his understanding of modern-day youth. The singer has mixed R&B with electronic music to make his new beat cheerful. One reviewer wrote on QQ Music: "When you listen to the song, it makes you feel young again, full of vitality and energy."
