1.To rock the boat
指的是“找麻烦,或者让人感到厌烦”。人们往往会劝别人不要去找麻烦,比如下面是两个人在办公室里谈论一个很偷懒的同事:
Sure, I agree Smith isn't worth the big salary he gets, but I wouldn’t tell the boss if I were you. Smith is one of his favorites, and he’ll think you're just rocking the boat and making trouble. 当然,我同意斯密斯根本没有资格拿那么高的工资。但是,要是我是你,我就不会把这种想法告诉老板。斯密斯是他的亲信之一。你要告诉他的话,他会以为你想找麻烦呢。
2.On cloud nine
我们都会说一个人高兴得都找不到北了,高兴得走路轻飘飘就好像腾云驾雾、到了九天云外一样,这样子在英语中有一个很传神的习语来形容,就是 on cloud nine。比如:
I've been on cloud nine all day long - I heard this morning that I got an A on my final biochemistry exam.
我今天一天都很高兴,因为我早上听说,我生物化学期末考试得了一个A。
令人高兴的事是层出不穷的,下面这位太太也是很高兴,至少她的先生是这么说的:
My wife has been on cloud nine since I told her the other day I would spend my year-end bonus at the office to take us to Hawaii to celebrate our twentieth wedding anniversary. And to tell you the truth, I'm really looking forward to it myself.
