1. She has the ear of the company's chairman.
The company's chairman指的是公司的董事长。这里有个短语：Have the ear of someone，If you have the ear of someone, they listen to you and respect your opinions and advice.如果说你have the ear of someone拥有别人的耳朵，实际上是指别人听你的话、尊重你的看法和建议。She is only a secretary,but she has a good deal of power because she has the ear of the company's chairman.她虽是秘书（secretary），却拥有很大权力（has a good deal of power），因为公司董事长对她言听计从。

2. I nearly jumped out of my skin when a hand grabbed me in the dark.
对于这个例句我真是深有体会。那是去年的万圣节，我在世界之窗，路上有一些人扮作鬼魂，在背后突然抓我头发，可把人吓死了。当时我的感觉就是jump out of my skin，If you jump out of your skin, you are extremely shocked or startled.这个短语字面上来理解就是从皮囊中跳出来了，可谓吓得魂都没有了，所以呢短语用来表示感到大吃一惊、被吓了一大跳。I nearly jumped out of my skin when a hand grabbed me in the dark. 黑暗中有一只手把我抓住，可真把我吓了一大跳。The sudden explosion made her jump out of her skin. 突如其来的爆炸把她给吓了一大跳。

3. This book will give the students a firm grasp of English grammar.
Firm grasp字面上来理解就是紧紧地抓牢，firm是“紧紧的”意思，grasp抓住。你可以说She felt a firm grasp on her arm. 意思就是她感到手臂被紧紧地抓住了。这个短语还有隐身含义：Having a firm grasp means having control over a situation or extensive knowledge of a subject.表示对某一情况或者知识较好地掌握。This book will give the students a firm grasp of English grammar. 就是说：这本书将使学生牢固地掌握英语语法。
