Exercise 1.2
Jake worked as taxi driver.
Late one night he was driving on the street
looking for customers.
It was cold and it was raining
and there were no people on the streets.
He was driving along and thinking about
going back home when suddenly a woman appeared.
She was standing under a streetlight
and she was carrying a small suitcase.
She waved to stop the taxi.
Jake stopped and she got in.
She didin't say a word.
She just gave him a small piece of paper
with the address of house in Delton,
on the other side of the city.
They drove in silence across town
through the rain.
While they were waiting at a stoplight
he looked at her in the mirror
and saw that she was crying.
He asked ,"Are you okay?"
but she didn't reply.
When they finally arrived at the house,
she paid him, got out, and went inside.
