One day before Gaokao
致青春 在路上 那些年我们一起高考过
To Gaokao, the most important exams of the year, which are now just one day away? The country is about to hold its collective breathe and walk on tiptoes as millions of high school seniors take part in the Gaokao, or national college entrance examinations.
The silent countdown, in less than 24 hours, the classroom will be filled with students fighting for their dreams. Details of the exam are up on the electronic board, posters with words of encouragement everywhere in the schools, and the atmosphere before the big battle can be felt everywhere.
Some of the students are still cramming up to the last minute. But they’re not the only ones who are worrying about the exams.
Wang Hairong, High School Teacher, said, "I’m their teacher and I’m nervous. Maybe more worried than my students. It’s not just a test for them, it’s test for me as well. All I can do now is to pray that they all do well in the exam."
And it’s not just inside the school that’s affected; signs are up outside warning of traffic controls and a parking ban near the site of the exam.
Niu Huiqiang, Security Team Leader, said, "During the exam, traffic controls will be in place on roads near the school to make sure there’s no noise in the area."
Hotels are doing good business as the exam approaches.
“Do any students stay here during the college entrance exams?”
“Yes, quite a lot stay here for the exam.”
“How many?”
“We’ve had more than ten bookings.”
“When will they arrive?”
“Most of them will arrive this afternoon. But some of them are already here.”
Just over nine million students are expected to sit this year’s college entrance exam.
